Demotivaed. Unproductive. And just downright LAZY! These thoughts consumed me after sleeping 12 hours straight.
“No one cares how much weight you can lift if you can’t touch your toes.”
That’s what a fellow trainer said to me when I opted out of stretching after a heavy lift day. I laughed it off at the moment, but his words are something that stuck with me.
We all have heard the saying, “I’ll sleep when I die, but many people don’t realize they could die a lot sooner with this mentality. In fact, approximately 50-70 million Americans of all ages are negatively impacted by sleep related issues. And if these problems persist, chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, depression, and heart disease can occur. Unfortunately as a society we tend to prioritize the hustle and the “need” to always be busy while deeply undervaluing quality rest.
Around the age of 10, I started experiencing health issues that disrupted my every day life—enough for my parents to take me to the doctor. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, given medication, and was told I would , “outgrow” it.
