This grind it out mentality is often preached in society…especially in the fitness industry. We are taught to push our body to extremes, whether that be in the gym or the workplace.
Demotivaed. Unproductive. And just downright LAZY! These thoughts consumed me after sleeping 12 hours straight.
“I didn’t think I would ever be able to play basketball again” These thoughts consumed Nate as he lied on the floor after a bullet penetrated through his knee.
“No one cares how much weight you can lift if you can’t touch your toes.”
That’s what a fellow trainer said to me when I opted out of stretching after a heavy lift day. I laughed it off at the moment, but his words are something that stuck with me.
We all have heard the saying, “I’ll sleep when I die, but many people don’t realize they could die a lot sooner with this mentality. In fact, approximately 50-70 million Americans of all ages are negatively impacted by sleep related issues. And if these problems persist, chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, depression, and heart disease can occur. Unfortunately as a society we tend to prioritize the hustle and the “need” to always be busy while deeply undervaluing quality rest.
