HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Today officially kick starts the beginning of the holiday season and we couldn’t be more excited!
This time of the year can be a great time of fun, family, and festivities, but it’s also a time where many suffer from the flu. We want to help keep you healthy this holiday season, so we are going to let you in on a secret…
The real trick is in the treat!
It’s no coincidence that as our intake of sugar increases, so do our chances of sickness.
Every time you eat refined sugar you suppress your immune system for up to 5 hours after consumption.
This can make you very vulnerable to catching viruses and not feeling well, but you don’t have to fall victim to illness this year.
Here are 5 tips to help you stay healthy this holiday season.
1. Limit Your Indulgences
Since we know that over consumption of processed and sugary foods make us more susceptible to getting sick, it’s best to limit ourselves from these indulgences. This means limit all your favorite foods and treats to just the holiday. Don’t take leftovers home or try to sneak those candies, cookies, and cakes all throughout the week. Enjoy your holiday for that one day and then resume your normal eating patterns after.
2. Load Up On The Good Stuff
If you know that you’re going to indulge for the holidays, make sure to plan your body in advance for any overload of sugar or alcohol that you may consume. You can help combat the effects these things may have on your body by loading up on as many raw fruits and veggies as you can and drinking a ton of water! Although we strongly suggest that you eat this way all of the time, it’s important to do so in the days leading up to any holiday that you plan on making exceptions to your normal, nutritional habits.
3. Practice Fasting
Fasting is an excellent way to boost your immune system because it provokes the regeneration process of immune cells. Try incorporating any form of fasting into your routine this holiday season in efforts to counteract what any intake of sugary, processed foods may have on your body.
4. Take Supplements
Other ways that can be effective in boosting your immune system this year is quality supplementation. Drinking things like Kombucha, herbal teas, or Ningxia Red [Young Living’s AMAZING antioxidant juice] are great preventive options. You may even consider taking high amounts of Vitamin C to further boost your immune system during the holidays.
5. Get Adequate Sleep and Keep Stress Levels Low
The holiday season can be an incredibly fun time for people, but it can also be a very stressful time. Because of this, it’s important to get adequate amounts of deep, quality sleep and avoid stress triggers. This requires preparation! For example, if you are responsible for cooking Thanksgiving lunch this year, prepare in advance. Make a list of all the ingredients you need and beat the rush by going grocery shopping days prior to the holiday. Once you have all the things needed, cook all the food the day before. If you know 30 people are going to show up at your house at noon, you no longer have to wake up at 2:00 am to finish everything. It will already be done! This can potentially save you from missing out on sleep or help you avoid a high stress situation.
All in all, we wish you a happy holiday season and the best way to enjoy this time of the year is to stay healthy throughout!
